Around 130 million people worldwide speak German as their mother tongue. It is the official language of Germany, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg.

German is also one of the official languages of Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Around 7.5 million people in 42 countries around the world belong to a German-speaking minority.
